Background History

The University for the Development of the National Races of the Union was founded as the Academy for the Development of the National Groups (ADNG) on 20th October 1964. For the sake of promoting socio-economic development of the national youths from border area, it was opened at the house of Educational Minister and at the office of commander, on the “Kyei Hpaya Gyi” Road, Aye Mya Waddy Qr, Sagaing.

Then it was moved to the current location, Ywathitgyi village, Sagaing on 14th August 1968. The ADNG offered Primary Assistant Teacher Course and Exceptional Primary Assistant Teacher Course, and trained the national youths not only to become qualified teachers but also to become young regional leaders. With the great aim of nurturing the national youths to become good educational personnel who will attempt for the development and the Union Spirit of the nationalities, the ADNG was upgraded to the University for the Development of the National Races of the Union (UDNR) by State Law and Order Restoration Council Law No.9/91 on 10th May 1991.

During the period of the Academy for the Development of the National Groups (ADNG), from 20-10-1964 to 31-10-1998, it was implemented by the Ministry of Education, from 1-11-1988 to 9-5-2012 central committee for selection of trainees (Now the Union Civil Service Board) and the University for the Development of the National Races of the Union has been under the management of the Ministry of Border Affairs since April 1, 2012. There are (187) officials, 364 staff members totally 551 members are serving at UDNR according to the constitution.

Location

The University for the Development of the National Races ofor the union is located in Ywa Thit Gyi, San Pya Village about 4 miles from south of NatkhaRine Village on the Mandalay- Sagaing-Monywa Road, 22 miles from Sagaing and the land area is about 393.9 acres.

Our Logo and Motto

The name of the University, University for the Development of the National Races of the Union, encompasses its main aim- to bring about the development of the national races of the Union. And development and prosperity of the nation depends chiefly on its national unity. This belief leads to the adoption of the University’s Motto “ Unity is Strength”.

Vision

  • To turn out the efficient teachers-cum-community leaders capable of building and safeguarding the peaceful modern developed nation.

Mission

  • The mission of the university is to conduct specially-designed programmes for offering training in teacher education plus leadership and management to the national youths, enabling them to fulfill the objectives of the university.
